Redverz Atacama Expedition Motorcycle Tent — Ivory

The Atacama is a motorcycle expedition tent built for riders who go places.
Not a weekend warrior tent. Not a glamping setup. A purpose-built shelter designed around a full-size adventure tourer — panniers, luggage and all — that sets up solo in under five minutes and holds its shape when everything else is moving.
It's currently running in the Simpson Desert in Australia, through sub-Saharan Africa, across South America, and on routes through Europe and North America. Riders use it because it works. Because it's still working 14, 15, 16 years later. Because when the weather turns, it doesn't.
The Ivory colorway reflects heat rather than absorbing it — a practical advantage in desert and high-summer conditions.
This is the tent you buy once.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Paid for itself in a few nights. Bone dry in hard rain.”
— Rob, 4-week US motorcycle tour

The Garage

Two opposing J-doors open wide enough to ride a full-size adventure tourer straight in. Panniers on. No unloading in the rain. No gear left outside.

Standing headroom throughout. Use it as your living room, your workshop, your drying room. When the weather closes in, this is where you eat, plan, and wait it out.

It's not a vestibule. It's a room.

Sleeping Bay

Rectangular floor plan. Vertical walls. Enough space to sleep three, use cots for two, or spread out solo with room for gear.

Separate entry and exit doors mean two riders never have to climb over each other. Flow-through ventilation runs air from one end to the other — essential in heat.

Configurations

— 1 Up — full space to yourself. Gear stays inside. No compromises.

— 2 Up — queen-size footprint. Separate doors. Each rider has their own exit.

— 3 Up — tight but workable. Move gear to the garage bay.

Built for Real Weather

4000mm hydrostatic head on the fly. 10,000mm on the floor.

To put that in context: most camping tents rate between 1500–3000mm. The Atacama's floor rating is more than three times that — because when water pools around a tent in a storm, the floor is where it gets in.

Factory-sealed seams throughout. Bathtub floor construction. This isn't expedition-grade waterproofing as a marketing claim — it's what you need when the weather doesn't care about your schedule.

The Frame

Aircraft-grade aluminium poles, pre-bent to shape. The hoop design creates vertical inner walls — that's what gives you the headroom and the structural integrity in high winds.

Flexible enough to absorb gusts. Rigid enough to hold shape through the night. The frame is why this tent is still standing after 15 years of hard use in the hands of people who ask a lot of their gear.

What Riders Say

“I received the Atacama Expedition tent in July. I then took a 4-week motorcycle tour of 21 states. I spent an entire week in the Great Smoky Mountains each night in this tent. The fit and finish are astounding. It paid for itself in just a few nights as I didn't have to stay in motels. I have used this tent during a hard rain and no leaks, no drips, no errors.”

— Rob

“They laugh about the bike in the garage tent but then when it's raining, snowing or blowing out it's suddenly the most popular tent in the campground. I've had this particular tent for nearly a year now and I love how roomy it is, how I can stand up to change my clothes, the ventilation that prevents moisture buildup and how much space there is for storage.”

— Eric Hall

“Purchased this to encourage my wife to join me on longer moto trips. Not only did that work out wonderfully, but I'm using it on a regular basis when camping solo. Feels high quality, all the zippers are super smooth, and I stayed 3 nights in wind and rain without a drop penetrating the outer shell.”

— Joel

“I would venture to say there is not a better design for two adults that is comfortable. The level of detail in the design of the tent is clearly obvious. On top of it, the company takes pride in their product.”

— Aditya

    one of the best tents.

Posted by Tom S. Omaha on 11th Aug 2015

This tent is great. While it is a little more to carry on your bike versus my old Big Agnes 3 person tent it is worth the extra 6 to 8 lbs. It is easy to set up and take down as there is only 3 poles. The biggest complaint you will have is the guys you camp with yelling at you for taking up so much room. It is great to be able to step into the tent versus crawl. Great ventilation and keeps you bone dry. I like these tents so much when the Atacama came out I had to sell my Series II to get one. And selling a well taken care of tent is no hassle as I had three people interested. Treat yourself and get one today.

    Great tent

Posted by Ed in BC on 27th Jul 2015

Redeverz Atacama tent. I had my new Atacama shipped to the BMW MOA Rally in Billings. Put it up and slept in it for 6 nights. Packed it up and took it home. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed all the features of the tent especially the vestibule for lounging, cooking and dining. Plenty of head room for my 6'2" frame. Had a few occasions when the J-door zipper snagged on the fabric but apart from that, no issues. Two-up on a bike with this tent may necessitate some selective packing. Great product. Thanks Kevin, Christine and the team.

    Pretty darn amazing

Posted by Rod on 13th Jul 2015

Pretty much echo what Michael wrote on 5/16. I bought the tent for a 3,000 mile trip I'm doing in August on my 2002 fully dressed Goldwing. Ordered it early so I could test it out. I put this tent up as soon as I got it and slept in it for four nights. It rained every night (of course) - one night pretty severe thunderstorms. YES - the wing fits in the garage - its tight - but it fits. The tent held up extremely well... not a drop in the tent or garage area. I was surprised how quickly it dried too... I also encountered the issue with snagging zippers... (and its just on two openings)... if you run your finger up in advance of the zipper - its fine. Not a big deal at all... The material there is important for waterproofing. This is easily the best tent I've ever owned and highly recommend it!

    The Perfect Tent

Posted by Kayak Camper on 2nd Jul 2015

I am a sea kayaker and I was looking for a tent that could meet my specific wants and desires. I looked at as many different tents that I could possibly find on-line and concluded that this tent was the closest thing out there to what I was looking for. After emailing back and forth with Redverz customer service and asking many questions, I took the chance and purchased the tent. No regrets, it’s awesome! Following are my opinions of some pros and cons of the Atacama: Pros: - The tent is constructed very well. Good materials, good stitching, seems are taped. Rip stop nylon on the fly and the nylon is thicker than you would expect. The inner tent is actually somewhat water tight and dew will not drip through. The bathtub floor is constructed well and the side walls are 10 inches off the ground; no concerns about water leaking in. Ground sheets are strong nylon and worth the extra money; they clip into the tent very nicely and stay taught. When you look at the construction of the tent, you’ll understand that a lot of thought went into it. - Poles setup on the outside of the tent. The hoop design makes for quick easy setup and because the pole sleeves are on the outside of the tent, setup can be done in the rain without worry of getting the inner tent wet. The wind side of the tent must go into the wind. There are lots of guy out lines that secure the tent in windy conditions. There are storage pockets for the guy lines, but they are undersized and the Velcro closure makes stuffing lines into them a challenge. - The color is great. I got the green one; it does not look like the color presented on the website pictures. Less brown and more green than you may expect. I would describe the green color as the perfect shade to blend in with nature. If you want your tent to seamlessly fit in with the natural landscape, go with green. If you want high visibility go with yellow. - Setup is easy! If someone says otherwise, they are not doing it right. Watch the setup video; unfold the tent and lay fully out, 2 stakes on the wind side, 2 stakes on the leeward side, slide three poles through sleeves, insert pull ends into grommets, go to other side of the tent and insert pull ends into grommets, attach c-clips, and you’re done. This should take 5 minutes if you are familiar with tent and if you stow it properly. I leave the inner tent attached and both ground sheets clipped in, so it’s ready to go as soon as it’s up. However, if you want, the inner tent can be removed and packed separately; this is helpful on really wet days. - The tent has incredible gear storage potential. If you are not parking a motorcycle in the tent, there is more than enough room to accommodate all gear that you have with you, plus interior living/cooking space in foul weather. I like to connect the “garage” ground sheet and then fold back the motorcycle bay portion of it towards the J door. I then place all of my gear on the ground sheet in front of the J door, thus allowing maximum storage space and ease of access to my gear. I enter the tent from one of the 2 side doors, since the ground sheet has been folded out of the way, there is no need to take off shoes and I can stand up comfortably, function, and operate within the motorcycle bay (I’m 6’2”). Because all gear fits in the garage, my campsite is clean, my gear is out of the UV light and out of the rain, it is away from animals, it is away from people, it is organized, and it is incredibly easy to access. - The tent packs down small and the weight is relatively light. Just like with motorcycle touring, you can only fit so much gear into a kayak, so the pack size and weight of the tent is important. If I can fit this into a kayak, you can fit this on your motorcycle. This tent is about the same package size and weight of my previous touring tent, a Mountain Hardwear Trango 4, but has twice as much floor space and height! - I can stand up in this tent. Unlike any other tent I’ve owned, I can walk into this tent and I can take off my dry suit in comfort. I can comfortably spend time in this tent. I can relax in my Helinox Camp Chair inside the garage. I can almost standup at the entrance to the inner tent. No crawling through a hobbit hole to get into this tent. - Perfect for 2 people. Plenty of sleeping space, storage space, moving around space, and space for anything else you and a companion would need. Cons: - Zippers snag easily on both J doors. This happens because there is extra material that covers the zipper on the outside. It keeps the water out, but requires extra attention when zipping. The vertical side doors do not have this issue. - No awning over either J door. If there were awnings, I could open up the top of the J doors for more ventilation in foul weather; when I need additional ventilation the most. - The side doors can roll up and be stowed, but only when fully unzipped. Sometimes I only want them half open, but then there is no way to stow the rolled up material. - The mosquito netting on the large J door needs an additional tie off when rolled up. The bungee tie offs do not allow synching, so therefore when the mosquito netting is rolled up it loosens up and becomes floppy and saggy and drags on the ground. - The tent stakes bend. This could be user error, but in normal use I’ve managed to bend many of my tent stakes and I have not had that issue with other tents or stakes. My thought is that in an attempt to make the tent taught, more force than you might expect is placed on the stakes. - Sometimes the tent is too big for the available tent spot location. It would be wonderful if the side door zippers were full length and could fully unzip. For the small camp site I would love to be able to remove the motorcycle bay altogether, and zip the J door vestibule directly to the sleeping bay! - No windows in the tent. When the weather is bad and doors need to be closed, the tent lacks natural light. One window in the large J door would be nice. In conclusion, this is a wonderful tent and I would highly recommend it. I wrote this review because there are many things I appreciate about this tent and I think other people would appreciate as well! Also check out the “Solo Expedition Tent”; I would love try out this tent since the Atacama is sometimes too large for me to use by myself or when kayaking in a group. Maybe Redverz will let me test the Solo version; if so, I’ll update this review. Good luck finding the right tent for you.

Great tent to take motorcycle or car camping

Posted by Unknown on 24th Jun 2015

Setting up was fairly easy and should get easier each time you do it. I just got back from the Motor Guzzi Nationals, where I spent four nights sleeping in the new 2015 model. It's huge and has all the storage room, one could ever need. It packs nicely for a tent it's size and carrying on my bike was easy. The construction was great and everything operated as it should. The zippers, windows, and doors, operated flawlessly

    Redverz tent

Posted by Robin M on 15th Jun 2015

This is my second tent and seems like they made it better. It has a sensible roomy area for sleeping in which each person has their own zip door. Before, I had to climb over my partner to get up or crawl thru the smaller back door vestibul. The mosquito netting is a 100% improvement and like the custom sleeping and garage area foot prints. The zippers still get snagged in the tent when opening and closing but overall the tent is a major improvement.

    ripped inner pouch

Posted by Laurie Dietz on 29th May 2015

First time camping and when we went to put stuff in one of the inner pouches it fell through. The only other thing is the outside zippers are too close to the lip which causes snags. Other than that, we love it!

    Fantastic tent!

Posted by Michael on 15th May 2015

I purchased this tent when it first came out this winter. I have used it in two road trips with my BMW GS Adventure. It easily fits on my top case and I have plenty of room on the rest of my bike for my other gear. Fantastic tent! Easy to set up and great to have all the room! I can easily fit my cot and sleeping pad inside along with all my gear. I especially like the doors and my ability to easily stand up and enter and exit the tent. The garage area is ideal for using as a covered lounge and for changing clothes. Also a great space for cooking when the weather is not favorable. Plenty of room for my Kermit chair and table and more. Gives me a place to relax. The Redverz waterproof bag gives me plenty of room for the tent, both ground sheets and more. Keeps everything protected and dry. If you like to ride and camp this tent in comfort, this tent is for you. I won't travel anywhere with out it.

    Best tent I've owned

Posted by Unknown on 13th Apr 2015

I've been camping for over 40 years and owned many tents. I've always bought the best that I could afford and this tent is the best I've owned so far. My riding partner has had one for a couple years and we've loved it. This year I bought my own and the upgrades made in the design are outstanding. I sleep on a full-sized cot and this tent is perfect for this.
